AFC Auditor Requirements

AFC auditors must meet the following education, training, and experiential requirements:

Agricultural Producer and Markets

DVM or VMD Degree plus 2 years working experience in agriculture.
or
Extension Agent or Agricultural Educator plus 4 years experience in agriculture industry.
or
Advanced degree (MS or PhD) plus 2 years experience in agriculture.

Processing, Distribution, Transportation, and Retail

Four year or advanced Technical Degree1 and four years food and or agriculture industry experience or interaction 2, 3
or
Prior Auditing Experience (40+ hours food, agriculture or manufacturing industry related auditing within the past twelve months.)

1. A Technical Degree is a degree obtained in Food Science, Agriculture, Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry or Engineering.

2. In this context, food, agriculture or manufacturing industry experience or interaction means serving in a technical, professional or supervisory role in the food, agriculture or manufacturing industry or a related governmental agency that involves accountability and the exercise of judgment.

3. The requirement for a four year or advanced degree can be waived if in the judgment of the certification director the applicant’s work history experience qualifies the individual.
