4 Steps to VeriPrime Traceability Certification

Step 1: Read and follow applicable standards

The VeriPrime Traceability Standard provides an open, comprehensive, verifiable methodology, with complete audit trail, for tracing livestock and food products from point of origin to point of consumption.

The VeriPrime Traceability Standard based on the: ISO 22005 Draft International Standard, Traceability in the feed and food chain. Animal identification device vendors are also certified to ISO 11784 and 11785. ISO 22005; ISO 11784 and ISO 11785 are published by the International Organization for Standardization in Geneva Switzerland.

With consensus from a broad range of participants who are materially or directly affected by traceability in the food and feed industry, using International Organization of Standards (ISO) criteria as the baseline for ensuring a quality system.

Step 2: Submit application materials and fee

The core of the application is your traceability assurance plan.  Forms have been developed to assist you in developing a plan for your operation.  These can be downloaded from the Request Form.  After your initial certification, an annual update to your plan must be submitted along with the annual certification fee.

Step 3: On-site inspection

The inspector will prepare a report that is sent to Agri Food Certification for review. The audit is conducted at applicant cost and performed by AFC trained and qualified subcontract auditor.

Step 4: Review and certification decision

Agri Food Certification will review your file of application materials and inspection report. The AFC Certification Director will review the complete applicant file, to include the audit report from the on-site audit. If all standards are complied with, you will be issued a traceability assurance certificate. If all standards have not been met, you will receive a notice of noncompliance with an opportunity for corrective action. Categories of Certification Status are found in the AFC Quality Manual.
